Sjögren's Walkabout is a Success
On April 17, 2004 the Sjögren's Syndrome Foundation held its first ever Sjögren's Walkabout with great success, bringing out over 100 walkers and raising an astounding $15,400 to benefit the Foundation.
The Sjögren's Walkabout, held in Denver at the Colorado Mills, is the first ever national awareness and fundraising event for Sjögren's Syndrome. The non-competitive family-fun event focused on awareness while helping to raise money to support the Foundation’s research and education programs.
Before stepping off for their 2-mile walk, participants heard some opening remarks from CBS4 Denver news anchor, Molly Hughes. She had attended a Sjögren's support group meeting several months earlier and realized that her mother suffered from many symptoms that Sjögren's patients suffer from. Molly's mother discussed this with her doctor and soon after was diagnosed with Sjögren's syndrome. Molly expressed her thanks for being involved with the Sjögren's support group and the Walkabout.
The Walkabout was such a successful event thanks to the hard work of the Sjögren's Walkabout Committee – Maurine Daniels (chairperson), Gertrude Dathe, Susan Joyce, LaDonna Landry, Jessica Levy and Lonia Maxwell – and the generous support of presenting sponsors MGI Pharma and Maxwell Builders.
