The Diagnosis

Sjogren's syndrome diagnostics

Sjogren's syndrome is a condition involving the immune system that affects your mouth as well as other parts of your body. It's not necessarily prevented by practising good dental hygiene. One needs to do more to prevent the onset of Sjogren's Syndrome. But like any condition, before you can do anything about it, proper testing needs to be done to accurately define it.

I thought there was something wrong with me, and after putting up with certain symptoms that would not go away, I visited my doctor. After a whole range of tests, including an MRI and three ampoules of blood for testing, he sat me down to give me the news.

He said that tests showed I probably had Sjogren’s syndrome. What the hell was that? Apparently common enough, as about 4 million Americans suffer from the disease. The doctor then spent a good few minutes explaining it all to me.

The Basics of Sjogren's Syndrome

The syndrome is a disorder of the immune system. The two main symptoms are dry eyes and dry mouth. Not a bit of dryness - a noticeable one. It will be noticeable enough to make you feel uncomfortable.

You will certainly realise that something is not right.

I asked about treatment and possible costs. The doctor gave me all the alternatives – natural products and prescription. Some of the drugs were expensive. Considering the treatment could go on for years I was wondering how I could get a 12 month loan with bad credit. That was the only way I could pay for ongoing treatment. Crazy really. A bit like getting a disease I’d never heard of. Good health should be a prime goal in life.

For those readers who may end up with this Syndrome, take my advice, opt for the natural products. Less side-affects and over a long period of treatment, it will turn out a lot cheaper.
